Digital Media Audition InformationThe Photography / Film / Digital Media program has been created by blending two dynamic programs, Communication Arts and Visual Arts. Students will be offered classes in film (digital video) production, photography – traditional and digital, animation and graphic design. Students in this program will work with both the moving image and the still image to create narrative, experimental, documentary and short films of a variety of genres.
1. The applicant will select a sequence of images to create a Storyboard of 5 photographs from a group of 29 photographs and write a text to accompany each of the photographs, the applicant will have 40 minutes and the materials will be provided by the school.
Evaluation of the Storyboard will be based on the applicant’s:
- organization of time and materials.
- demonstrated ability to choose images to tell a story.
- demonstrated ability to analyze the connection between image and idea.
- demonstrated ability to interpret the meaning of the photograph and place in storyboard.
- demonstrated ability to write text relevant to the photographic imagery.
- demonstrated genuine interest and enthusiasm for the art of photography .
2. The applicant will create a series of 10 Digital Photographs on campus using a digital camera, exploring an assigned theme related to the elements and principles of design. The applicant will have 60 minutes and the digital cameras will be provided by the school.
Evaluation of the Digital Photography Exercise will be based on the applicants
- organization of time and materials,
- use of spatial relationships within the photograph,
- use of color and/or contrast (the applicant may decide to not use color),
- integrity of the photograph, which is the ability to relate the image to the assigned theme,
- the composition and the placement of the focal point within the picture plane,
- care, respect, and consideration of the equipment and the work presented.
3. SENIOR YEAR APPLICANTS ONLY – Applicants entering their senior year will participate in an interview and portfolio review. These students should bring a portfolio that contains ten pieces of sample work including, but not limited to: film (treatments, scripts, storyboards, DVDs of product), graphic design, web design, and/or photography.
