Music Strings

Our department works to encourage collaboration and creativity, and foster a supportive environment for musical and personal growth. We offer two large ensemble classes (string orchestra and Dreyfoos Philharmonic), two instrument technique classes, and a chamber music class which is a collaboration with the piano and band departments.

The Award winning DSOA Jazz Studies Program is a nationally accomplished jazz education program within the Music Department at Dreyfoos. What started out as a before school jazz band has developed into a  program made up of two curricular Large Jazz Ensembles and several jazz combos/small ensembles that perform over 20 times a year. Students will perform, study, and be exposed to all the diverse music under the jazz umbrella as well as develop their jazz improvisation skills. The Jazz Studies Program is committed to providing our students with workshops/masterclasses with renowned Grammy Winning Guest Artists/ Educators, providing high quality performances, and providing life changing experience through our participation in national caliber jazz festivals.
